It dates from the 1st century and is built at the dominant point of the Acropolis, in the city forum. It is one of the best preserved Roman temples in the Iberian Peninsula. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it is certainly the oldest of all monuments in Evora.

Arraiolos Point - Genesis
With the expulsion of the Jews and Moors from Spain by the Catholic Kings, an exodus began. Many were those who settled in Portugal. At that time, King Manuel I was under pressure from the Catholic kings of Spain to expel the Jews and the Moors as well. Several people decided to settle in Arraiolos, due to the warm welcome, abundance of flocks, excellent wool, and diversity of plants essential to the dyeing of wool and the manufacture of the canvas. With the presence of Jews and Moors the Arraiolos rugs gain new expression and greater vitality.
